COVID-19 remains prevalent in the community, and for most people, and especially for those who are vaccinated, it will cause a mild, self-limiting illness that can be safely managed at home.

In 2022 New Zealand's response to COVID shifted to a model of self-management, where individuals with COVID-19 are provided with information and encouraged to access health or welfare services as required. The focus for health professionals will be on assisting those who reach out for help, and proactively supporting those who are deemed to be at high risk of complications (eligible for antiviral therapy). A small number of people with COVID-19 will become more unwell, and it is crucial that if you are isolating at home with COVID-19 and you have severe or worsening symptoms, you must inform a health professional (see below for contact information). In August 2023 all remaining COVID restrictions were removed, meaning that while isolating for 5 days with COVID is encouraged, it is no longer mandatory.

If you develop COVID, you may qualify for antiviral therapy. Eligibility for antivirals can be found here.

For eligible patients, antiviral therapy can be accessed via our clinic or participating pharmacies. Pharmacies providing antiviral therapy are listed here
